Chazba,

While others discuss who said what where and when, I'll suggest that if possible, you try out any mics that fit within your budget, also, it may be worthwhile waiting for a while until Studio Projects release the 2nd generation of B and C series mics. These mics have undergone a total revamp..........diaphrams, electronics, features and visual appearance. How do they sound? I don't know but I can only imagine that people won't be too disappointed.

Yet, when someone with creds and experience speaks up and recommends a piece of gear people should at least listen to what they have to say. Most people out here have never heard a U87 nor can afford one and certainly can't compare a C-1 for example to it. If someone with a wealth of experience can I think it means something.

For what it's worth, I put a C1 up against a U87 a few years ago. WHY? To satisfy my own curiousity about some of the early claims that were being made. In good faith, I posted our impressions and from memory made it patently clear that it was not a "scientific" shoot out and the result was only valid for the circumstances at the time.........needless to say I was virtually crucified by some people here, but I'll still stand by what we heard.

That said, were I to do it again, I'd take more time, use various sound sources and probably run through a few different pre's and I have little doubt that the result may be a bit different. And regardless of the outcome I wouldn't post it here ;) .

All I can say is I grabbed a TLM103 and a C1 at a store in Phoenix, and the C1 sounded worlds better on my voice. Not that this would be the case on all sources. This was many years ago. The c1 still gets used a most female vox in my studio.

Hey musical5, what pre are you using with your SP C1? Just Curious.
