Pardon my asking what is almost certainly an old question, but I'm new to this thread. Is the StudioProjects C1 as good as the reviewers (from a few years back) claimed it was ? Like most, I am on a tight budget and want the most in a vocal mic for my money .

There must be at least a hundred threads on the C-I. Do a search and you'll get all the info you need. To cut to the chase most people find the C-1 to be a great value, the B-1 even a better value. I own both and love them both.

The board will reject "C1" as too few letters, or whatever.

The reviews have downgraded from "orgasmic" to "very solid, but bright." More realistic, I suspect.

The C1 when it first came out broke a price/quality barrier that was fairly radical for the time. Some reviewers in their enthusiasm resorted to hyperbole in saying it was just as good as a Neuman. In the years since many other vendors have done exactly what competitors do...compete. So the C1 is no longer a standout best value that it once was.

Only a spendthrift would want anything other than a great value in their purchases. So what is your budget and what are you recording and what is the style of music? Mics are not a one-is-best-for-everything appliance. Otherwise there wouldn't be so darn many of them!

The C1 when it first came out is when I bought mine...the unit sounds great with an 1176 preamp and is a workhorse...well worth the price they are going for.

The C1 is not the only mic in its price range that you should consider but it remains one of the more popular choices.

Well, depends on so many factors, from preamps to voices to rooms, from recording path to recording gear to mic postions and on and on. I still love mine and still find it to be the best $200 mic out there. As far as a search, it might reject C-1, but it won't reject "studio projects" C-1.

Actually I like the B1 more than the C1, which is much more bright sounding.

And the C1 certainly doesn't sound like a Neumann, no way.

I saw one on www.gearslutz.com in their registered users classified section that they were asking 130 bucks for in mint condition. I used to have one, but liked the AT4033 much more.

Yep, just checked, and it is still for sale, grab it!

I'll take a Bellari any day over that Line6 toy crap.

That's not saying much.

Well, a lot of people much more in the know thought it did, including

DOT "The original C1 I had really did sound a lot like a U87"
