cannot decide what monitors. both priced similar recently. got medium-size room, about 12m square.i use audigy platinum, no floor stands yet.

If you like both of them, who has the better support available? The Wharfdales are made in England and seem to be the monitor-du-jour right now. Have you checked them out?

right.wharfies diamond 8.1 and 8.2 pro active seem fine.i heard a lot of good opinions 'bout them.. i'll check them out, however there's a poor avaibility here in Poland. looking for used ones..thanks for advice!

Ive been using my BX5's for about a week now and i like them alot.
The dont offer much in the bass department though.
I only bought them for monitoring mids and highs.
If you are trying to buy an "all around set of monitors". I wouldnt recommend them.

The BX5's are perfectly good monitors, but as you say, the bass is lacking. The bass ports are in the *back* of the speakers on purpose. Why? They're designed to work with the M-Audio SBX powered subwoofer. I started with a pair of SP5B's (the predecessor of the BX5, almost exactly the same, electronically), and they worked OK, but I had major problems getting the bass to translate. Then I added the SBX, and I have no problems whatsoever with the 3 speaker system.-Richie

right.thanks guys.however I am quite limited by the low budget. I am afraid I can't afford the additional sub yet to bx5's. what do you think about m-audio studiophile lx4 system? are they good enough to work on more sophisticated applications? the price is nice and you get the low end..

i've got the predecessor of the BX5--the SP5B's. They ARE a bit lacking in the bass department, but i mean, they're 5in speakers. you're not gonna get that chest-caving thump from 5in cones.

yes, they do tend to lead to over-compensation when it comes to mixing bass and kick in a rock scenario. but i would contend that once you learn your monitors and how they translate in your room, you won't have a problem. this is easily accomplished by spending many hours listening to recordings you're intimately familiar with on the monitors in question and then aiming to mix to how those recordings sound.

i'm VERY happy with my SP5B's.......but i'm really looking forward to upgrading to the BX8's. i started out mixing solely acoustic music, but have since moved onto rock and other types that involve more bass, and really want that "thump" i don't get from the 5's. still......the 5's sound VERY nice....and if you READ the MANUAL, you'll learn how to properly position them.
