Searching for the sound
Hi - this is a thread I have also posted on the Yahoo Studiomixmap group but since the activity there is really low (looks like days between posts...) I thought I would ask here too:
I recently bought a Studiomix on Ebay to use as a Control
surface for Sonar 2.2XL. I am running Win2K and connect to the PC
through a Motu Midi Express (4 midi ports).
Last night, I downloaded MidiYoke and Studiomixmap and installed
both. My set up I belive looks like this:
Studiomix out -> Motu in Port 2 -> Yoke 2 -> Studiomixmap -> Sonar
Sonar -> Studiomixmap -> Yoke3 -> Motu out port 2 -> Studiomix
I belive Sonar is set up correctly since I went through a number of
system hangs and midi loopback messages when I had both yoke2 as in
and out.
I have been testing primarily with one fader and have set that fader
up two different ways.
1. When I set Studiomixmap to NOT remap then under the fader setting
for Remote Control, I set the NRPN to 3500 and Midi Ch to 16 I am
able to control the fader in Sonar from the Studiomix but the fader
is fighting my changes and I get very square volume envelopes. In
this mode, I do get reverse control of the fader on the Studiomix
from Sonar. Also, under Project settings, I have midi echo set to
none.
2. When I set Studiomixmap to remap and set the fader remap number
to for example: 64 and set the remote control dialog under Sonar to
listen to that controller and Ch16, I can do very nice smooth volume
envelopes BUT even with the Reverse Control box checked in
Studiomixmap, I am unable to get Sonar to control the fader on the
Studiomix.
Questions: It seems like I am doing something wrong in both cases
above but what? #2 above would be great if I could get Sonar to send
studiomixmap the right controls to remap. #1 wouls be OK if I could
get Sonar to stop fighting the fader... Help?
Thanks
Kevin.
