Hi
I’m in the process of building a basement studio. I’ve heard of a few different materials used for the walls.
Should I use a soft celetex and then wallboard or just two sheets of wallboard. I’m looking to keep outside noise from getting in but also keep any performance from disturbing others in the house.

If you can frame your studio rooms separately from the house framing that will help a lot but headroom is a problem in a lot of basements. There are two paths taken by sound - through the air and through the framing. How far you need to go depends on how noisy the house is, how noisy you are, and how much money you have.

Try your local library and bookshop for information on soundproofing. Maybe someone here knows some good information on the web.

go to www.auralex.com and check out the acoustics101.pdf. There is a lot of good info on building out the room and materials you can use. Obviously it rrecommends auralex but you can substitute to your needs and a lot of the stuff there can be done with some trips to Home Depot. Peter

wilbil,

More details information, etc about your basement is needed before anything like a definitive answer can be given.

Also, I would suggest you look at moving this thread or deleting it and reposting in the Studio Design Forum.........you will probably get a better response there.
