Hey, im looking to start a decent studio with my budget. I got about 2000 to start with. I was thinking of getting the Roland Studio Pack Pro, that comes with a sound card and a mixing control surface SI-24 for a computer that can record 8 tracks at once, which is what i want and it is $1300. I want to get a computer jsut for recording and im looking to spend around 500, i already have a monitor.

So basically what is your opinion on the roland pack, and also what kind of pre built computer do you guys suggest for recording around 500. Do you know a website i could go to? thanks.

I use the VM-3100 and I dig it. The pres are ok but some of the effects are cool.
I imagine it would be that much better with the TDIF abd R-bus card.
Go for it.

And monitors.

The Studio Pack Pro is probably decent but I have yet to hear from anyone who has one. The major downside is that it is based on Logic which has been discontinued for the PC. You should be able to use other software in the future with the control surface if you can handle the configuration and setup.

If it's anything like the older studio pack it will probably sound decent but be a bitch to learn.

I gave the studio pack pro a run and it sucked. It took 2 fucking hours just to get 2 fucking tracks down. Not intuitive whatsoever. So I packed it up and I picked up a used Fostex VM200 digital mixer and a Terratec EWS88D card for about $500 total. The Vm200 has a lot that the VM3100 doesn't..such as adat i/o, motorized faders, and a better interface. On the flip side, the VM200 is discontinued and hard to find new, but they do pop up on ebay quite a bit in the $300-$400 range.

hey i checked out that board, it looks pretty nice. Im sort of new to recording, so i have a few questions that i didnt get from reading the stats. So if i got one of these, how many tracks can i record at once? and is this also just a control surface to use with a computer? The setup up of this would be this hooked up to that card to a computer program. which programs are compatible with this? And yeah i have mics and monitors in mind too in my budget. I need suggestions on a computer to buy though for around 500. and where i can get it. Im sort of need to get all this stuff wtihin the next week so i am trying to research everything and not make a mistake i will regret. Thanks

hey jr#97, ive found a lot of good and positive info on the vm200 and thats now the mixer on the top of my list. i found out that it can control many different computer programs. Now with that terretec card, can i record 8 channels at a time, and if not what card could i get that i would be able to record 8 at a time. im still looking for a computer. i decided to check ebay and found some decent setups. what do you think about this
