Hey guys, I've been in the market for DI, but seeing as I don't have any outboard preamps (using the ones in my TASCAM m312), I was wondering is it going to be better to buy a mic preamp with a DI, such as the VTB1? I've read its not the best DI at that price, but I'd like to have the versatility of having a better Mic Preamp too.

What do you guys think? Im on a tight budget, and this could be a good solution. is there anything else that would compare at that price point, or am I better to buy a seperate DI and use the pre's in my mixer still? (which I think are quite good)

thanks

At the price its probuly the best choice, most here like the ART tube MP, and its better than that.

The VTB1 is a great choice but only 1 channel. A bigger bang for about the same buck would be M-Audio DMP3. It's 2 channels and will take both XLR and 1/4 plugs.

I think the VTB1 is acceptable as a DI. The lowly Audio Buddy at $79 for two channels seems to perform better as a DI. There is no question that the VTB1 is the superior mic pre of the two.
