What are the differences here, what would these be bet suited for. I am looking to recording acoustic stuff banjo guitar and harmonica and some low down dirty blues and old time vocals.

mics I think i'll get will be
green bullet
v67g
mxl603 (maybe pair)

thanks

Well I will be interested in the responses ---
I have Two VTB1's and enjoy them, faced the same decision when I bought the VTB1's but got a great deal on two. The VTB1's are single channel, with tube blend that does allow for some variation and coloring.
I'm pretty sure the DMP3 is two channel, but a lot of good stuff said about them here.

DMP - 2 channels, lots of gain, pretty clean - would use on the acoustic stuff
VTB-1 1 channel, lots of gain, pretty colored - would use for you bluesy vocals

Sounds to me like you want both.

I'll second that. If you had to get just one, the DMP3 is a solid choice (very nice for acoustic guitar recording). However, I like the VTB-1 better for vocals.

I agree with Craig and Scrubs. The DMP3 excells on acoustic instruments. The clips I've heard of the VTB1 on acoustic guit were not impressive, but I hear it does a lot better on vox--although the DMP3 is no slouch there either, depending on the mic.

If you do a search over on the "Rack" forum... and look at the preamp polls and shootouts... you'll find most people like the DMP3 better... and they give their reasons why. ;)

IMHO a VTB-1 plus a EV 635a omni (over the V67) would be one smart way to go. Also consider a Joe Meek 3Q instead of the VTB-1.
