COUNT ME IN. I was waiting for this Xmas to buy the 603's.. BUT I will probable be getting the C4's instead.. I was sure I needed a pair of SD's and wanted to use the 603's (since it's the trend) but I have pretty much settled into the idea of buying the C4's. The fact that the capsules are MATCHED alone is worth the extra 100 bucks.. and now they come with OMNIs to BOOT! I am so stoked.. I have GOT to get these mics.. I too am curious about the comparison against teh Km's and the MK012's.. Reveal what you can Brent.. and thanks...
I hope that the street price will still be 300 bucks I know it will fit into more people's budgets if it is... I am soo eager to try these on a choir.

A new matched pair of Rode NT5's is only $299, maybe you could also offer a Studio Projects C4 deal, with cardioid capsules, clips, and case for about the same cost (or less) than the Rode NT5 matched set deal?

ADDED: You know, kind-of like the Rode NT1 verses the SP-C1, and later you added the pad/filter on the new C1 models but kept the price down. :)

Well we think the mics will sell for about $369.00 in the stores. The added Hi-Pass filter and pad are worth way more than $70.00. Then add in the extra capsules, and "Shockmounts"!!

This makes the package worth $250.00 more than the RODE for only $69.00 more. If you cant afford that, then maybe the RODE is where you need to be. We do not want to be a RODE or target a specific mic based on cost. We feel the C4 is a superior mic in performance, and features...Yes, a bit more but well worth it.

regards,

yeah... 7 dB drop between 500Hz and 50Hz... but then again this is a cardiod mic and you could always take advantage of proximity effect...

Oh, I can afford them and I'm aleady a happy owner of many Studio Projects mic's. I guess I was just thinking out loud here, you know with the Oktava MK012, Marshall MXL603S, and Rode NT5's all being sold so cheap. Anyway, I hope your right and I'd love to hear the new SP-C4, will there be a demo CD available soon?

hey jslator!

wondered what happened to you, as when i went back to harmony central after a few months absence, you seemed to have disappeared.

where you hanging out these days?

I guess you haven't seen this then:

I think the point was that the LSD-2 is the first mic of its type to be able to break the price barrier. I doubt that Brauner sells many, if any of these mics as a result of its $9K price tag. Not that I don't think the Brauner is not a good mic...I am sure it is very good, but on this one I am willing to go out and say that it is not $8K better than the LSD-2

The LSD-2 will put this kind of application recording into the hands of many users at a price of $999.99. That is something the Brauner simply can not do, with all due respect to them. You can also spend more money on other stereo mics like the Manley and the Neumann...If you have it!!! :D

Two totally different mics. DJL, I think you're just nit-picking.

Just to clarify slightly...........the RODE NT4 and the SP LSD-2 have different size diaphrams, different diaphram/capsule configuration and obviously different electronics. And on top of that the LSD-2 apparently has the ability to vary the top capsule angle........the RODE is fixed 90deg X-Y.

There is no fair way to compare these mics.

I still wonder if the Studio Projects LSD-2 is $550.99 better than the Rode NT4, does the LSD-2 sound more than twice as good as the Rode NT4?

Like all microphones -- it depends on your application. While these are both stereo mics, the similarity ends there. If you don't understand the differences in sound between a large and small diaphram condensor and when you would want to use one over the other, check out Harvey's mega thread -- I can't come close to explaining it as well as he does. The NT4 will be better for some applications, the LSD-2 will be better for others.

On vocal applications, stereo drums, orchestral recordings, Jazz recordings...the answer is most definately, yes. A large diaphragm is a better sounding mic, but not for "all" applications.

I trhink you are either trying to be sarcastic as a result of a true statement I made, or you own a Brauner or just don't know that much about the differences between large and small diaphragm mics. If it was my statement, then you should understand it was not direct at you. The facts are the facts, and that is no one has done this kind of mic in the large diaphragm format, and multi-pattern to boot...and that is why it is getting the attention of so many people. :D

The new Studio Projects C4's and LSD-2 mic's are way too expense for many home recording budget studio owners. Will, Studio Projects be making an affordable version of the C4 and LSD-2 (like B series) anytime in the near future?

Yes hey have. AKG made the C24, Brauner makes the VM1S, Manley makes the Gold Reference Stereo and Neumann made the SM69 (Tube and FET). I'm sure there are others. No question that yours is cheaper than those, but I think it's going a bit far to claim to have invented the concept of a large-diaphragm condensor with rotatable multi-patten capsules. It would be like claiming to have invented fixed-cardioid pattern large diaphragm condensors just because the B1 is the best LDC around at it's price point (which it might or might not be; I've never tried one).
