Hi guys & gals

I will be going to the big city for holidays on Monday.(Vancouver)
Anyways I already have an RNC Compressor on hold, but I need a new vocal mic.
I already own a SP B1 condensor but I find it a little bright for vocals.
So I was looking for something a little darker sounding, and I hear the At 3035
could be the one.
Also I hear great things about the SP C1 so I am kinda torn.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Lee.

Don't go to that site it is riddled with spam and crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Try them both out at the store. They are both perfectly wonderful mics

The C1 is not a dark mic. It was designed to bring vocals more out in front of the mix without adding EQ. So, the choice for you is what you want the mic to do. If it is a dark mic you are looking for on a budget, look to a Joemeek JM47, Marshall V67, or some of the less expensive ADK's.

The AT is not really a dark mic, so you need to try it before you buy it....

To me, the Studio Projects B1 is a fairly neutral mic. I've never considered it bright. What is your current signal chain?

A safe bet for a vocal mic that cuts the top end is the Shure SM58.

Dark mic- At its price point, it's hard not to like Oktava MK319, currently $99 at Guitar Center. I guarantee, you'll find uses for it. My other favorite in that price range is AKG C2000B, which is darker than 3035 or C-1, and a little colored. The Oktava is less colored than C2000B, and even darker.-Richie

Hey Lee,
I have both of these mics and for what you want I think AT3035 will be a better choice..and generally, i think a better mic than the C1...
Let us know how you go.. :)

Huh?

Hey Raven,

I listened to your tune. After hearing it, I am really curious about your recording chain. Please, no offense intended, but I think I detect that something else in the chain may need attention more than the mic. (i.e. soundblaster soundcard, etc.) I haven't had the opportunity to use any SP products, but by all accounts the B1 is a decent, neutral, mic. I own an AT3035, and it seems to me to be a cut above the MXL's, Samsons, etc. But it is not dark. It gives a very accurate representation of what goes into it.
