This is my first condenser. I just unplugged my sm58 and plugged in the b1, but I'm not geting any sound out of it. Am I missing something here?

He's right. The B1 is a Condensor mic that requires Phantom Power (typically 45 - 48 Volts) to operate. What kind of mixer/pre-amp do you have?

Yay another unforseen expense. Ah fuck. Thanks. I'm an idiot.

No, you're not. An idiot is someone who doesn't have the courage to ask questions.

Good luck!

In that case you have two choices

  • Buy a new desk with PP built in or
  • Buy a Standalone Phantom Power Supply.

    Here're some.

Im still waiting on my dmp3, so i just plugged staight into the board.

If by waiting for the DMP3 you mean that it is on it's way---this will solve your problem. The DMP3 has phantom power.
