studio project b1 vs behringer c-1 vs...

studio project b1 (120$) vs behringer c-1 (64$) vs CAD ICM417 (110$)

(prices are in canadian dollar)

which one would you go for?

i know a lot of you will say the b1, but the behringer is half price, is it still a good mic of just a piece of crap? i would need 2 mics as overhead and also wondered if any of those could be used to record guitars, and do a job as good as a sm57.

I do not think that the C1 is available your side of the pond yet. As for your question I own a SP B1 and a Berry C1 and they really are different types of Mics.
The SP I find to be quite a neutral sort of mic and can give good results on a load of sources including vocals contrary to some opinions. It is very good on acoustic.

The Berry is in actual fact not an LDC but a MDC as the capsule is about 19mm (3/4") I find it to be very neutral and as a starter for anyone interested in trying out a condenser mic makes a great buy. It has become my go to mic for jam sessions for use with Drums, Trumpets, Sax's, Bongo's etc. The only downside is that it has quite a lot of self noise, much noisier than the SP B1 which is very quiet. This does not matter at all in a live setting.

I have not tried it on Acoustic guitar but from its results to date I would think that it would be fine.
The Berry C1 has also replaced the SP B1 for live use on guitar cabs but this is purely a financial thing. Axemen and nice looking mics do not live together very well!!!

Both of the Mics would do a MUCH better job on nearly everything than the SM57 in the Studio.

For me the choice is simple, for live work (or if the budget is very tight) I am more than happy with the Berry C1's, for Studio work I would go with the SP B1's

I guess i'll go for the b1 then, since it's for recording use (which i somewhat allready knew, i was just taking a chance).

by the way i can get the behringer c1 here in Quebec, Canada. Saw them on a website.
 
well coincidentally i recieved a studio projects b1 this morning, and i am extactic with with, im running it through an oudiobuddy and i think it sounds great. i have heard the behringer is noisy... which to me was a BIG concern.
i would say for vox and acc guitar you will love it, i dont know abou drums as i havent tried it for them :o

Note, it is only the Berry C1 which is noisy. The Berry B1 has about the same level of self noise as the SP B1 i.e. quiet.
