Definitely better than nothing but there is clearly room on the walls for something better
I actually started out with foam and built my OC703 panels later when I had the money. AND found out how to do it myself.
The one thing I dislike about the standard desk design is the 'foot'. My 'Z'-style keyboard stand is the same way - I understand the need for balance, but when I'm at home I typically am not wearing shoes and have banged my toes on that damn 'foot' so many times! Right now I've got a piece of 1/2" blue foam wrapped around the one 'foot' that sticks out the worse - it may look funny, but has saved my toes!
There are few people who have built this desk and rounded off the the fronts of the "feet" and rounded off the edges to make it less formidable to the toes.
(Although it does have big feet people have been able to build it for as little as $50 and easily under $100.)
