studio monitors

hey can somebody recommend a good pair of studio monitors around $200 or less.. i don't know how this works exactly, i do know with passive monitors i will need to buy a power amp. how much would a decent power amp cost? thank you.
 
I couldn't even suggest a BAD set of monitors for $200...

On amps, about the only "budget" amp I recommend is the Hafler TA series.

Monitors - If you talk to deepwater (on this forum) he can probably swing you a deal on the Wharfedale Diamond monitors for a steal.

The passives are the bomb - I haven't heard the actives in here yet. I understand the mids aren't "quite" what the passives deliver as far as "smooth accuracy" is concerned.

But for what he's asking for those things, they're the shite.

I built my monitors for about $200 in parts, but you'll have to wire your own crossovers. They are nice and flat, good high end response, but as I used 6" woofers the lows fall off below 100Hz. PM me if you want details, I'll send you the part list & crossover diagram.
