Studio monitors... Which ones

I need help choosing between 3 pair

Please help


M Audio SP5B 70 Watt Nearfield Monitors (Pair)

Alesis Monitor 1 Active mk2 Biamp Monitors (Pr)

or

Behringer B2031 Truth Active Studio Monitors (Pr)

KRK V6's or better still, V8s.......

Mackie 624 or 824s.......

Events PS-6s or PS-8s.....

Im looking to spend 400 at most

Is there anything in that price range that is recomended?

If I'm not mistaken, the YSM1p's are about $30 more than your limit.

they're better overall yea, the alesis have more low end though. out of the 3 monitors you LISTED.. i'd take the behringers and tern down the tweeter to-2.. they sound much better that way
 
Personally, after seeing all the horror stories about the yorkvilles. I would go for the krk or the mackie.

I chose a set of yamaha ns10s and tannoy model 600.
 
what horror stories about the Yorkvilles? I haven't heard a single bad thing about them (ysm1p)... what am I missing? I was just about to order hehe :D (well not quite, but seriously considering them). Can you give some details?

and i'm certainly way, WAY more than happy with mine.

Well suffice it to say, I just placed my order (at Gear1Music) for the YSM1p's .... aside from the above (so far unexplained) comment, I could not find a single bad review/opinion of them at the sub-$500 price level. Sure the Mackie HR824 or something would be better... but there's no way I could possibly afford that hehe. I'm hopeful that these Yorkies will fit the bill for at least a few years ... until I get that impending record deal... er... uh.... ah hem... :) hehe

I don't fully understand the technical side of it yet... though isn't it true that something like that can only happen at very high volumes? And also isn't it true that there is a built-in limiter... a quote from Yorkville.com "The YSM1P also features +9/-6dB input trim, defeatable limiter [provides protection against signal over-load caused by excessive levels] and specialized tweeter overpower limiting and woofer over-excursion limiting."

If you have a moment, could you reference me to any discussions/articles where the problem you mentioned happened with the Yorkvilles?

i've never heard of that happening before, and the Yorkville's have a total of THREE limiters per speaker, if you have the first stage engaged. the over-power limiters on the individual speakers cannot be turned off.
 
Use the search funtion, I read those threads in october I think but the tweeters were the problem that all the dudes had, besides I would question the quality of any monitors made by a company that puts out cheap PA gear.

Theres plenty of choices out there that are chosen by pro studios that are in that price range, I google the things and see how many pro studios use them, that helped me find my NS10s.
 
i find it funny that you're mixing on NS10's and bashing the YSM1's... heh.

also, your logic of not trusting a company because they carry lines of cheap products is really stupid. there is certainly even plenty of very cheap, and very crappy Yamaha stuff out there... take the NS10's for example :)

Give a listen to the KRK v8's . I shopped for months and listened to everything out there. And for the money, the V8's are the great and best buy. However, beauty is in the ears of the beholder. Good luck... Mitch
