Hey dooods....Long time no post here....Anyhoo...Starting renovations on my studio space in the comming weeks and need your opinion on this little ditty....
Ok, sorry 'bout no pic but to let you know....The room I'm in now is aprox 6 metres byt 3 metres (give or take alittle on all these measurements)....At the moment I'm mixing a tracking in the same room....The room next a parralell to that is the garrarge also 6 by 3 ...Now...I'm gonna divide the gararge into to rooms on for performance and one for contral room and the other large room as another performance area...Now I'll have a windor from the control room into the small room and another into the large....I was origionaly gonna set the desk facing the window into the big room and just turn around when I had to look into the small room, but I was torying with the idea of placing the desk facing into the corner which means both window would be in front of me....Question is, will there be any monitoring problems or anything else to think about doin' it this way?...Cheers!

PS, none of the internal construction's been done yet so everything's still pretty variable...

Mem,

> the idea of placing the desk facing into the corner <

Don't do that. Place your speakers so they fire the long way into the room. Then make your mixing position about a third of the way back from the front wall.

Hey Ethan....Thanks for the reply man.....I understand about the 3d way from the front for the desc, but unfortunatly that's gonna eat up alot of the space which also has to acomodate some form of seating and such....Like I said, my dimentions are alittle off and could very well be smaller, at least it feels that way when standing there (hmmmm, where's my tape measure?)....
So as it stands the desk and monitors are gonna be near to the wall anyway, but liked the idea of abit more simetry with the veiwing possabilitys.....
What are the problems I'd face with the desk in the corner?....Baring in mind also that it won't be 'snug' in the corner at all as I've got to fit a Tascam 2524 mixer, transport unit for my Fostex G-16-S and a computer monitor, plus (depending on how I do it) poassably some of my rack gear too, so the bench will be longish so that'll imediatly push the distance from the corner to the desk back alittle....Does that make sence?

Mem,

> What are the problems I'd face with the desk in the corner? <

Mainly an inaccurate low frequency response.

Putting the speakers flat against the front wall is not bad, and you don't have to sit exactly a third of the way back. Just being oriented straight in the room will be better than having the speakers facing out of a corner. Or just try it both ways before you dress the cabling to its final position.

Cheers Eathin...That makes complete scence...BUT, would this help (which was part of my origional plan)....Ok, picture the desk facing the corner and each window just to each side, but the windows don't start right in the corner, they stars about one foot or so from the corner, so my idea was to build a corner absorber so that the face runs from the end of the left window to the start of the right, straight in front of the desk filling that whole corner....AHHH, sorry, a pic would be alot more helpful, but does that make scence and that'd surely help yeah?
I'll see what I can do about a pic....

Mem,

No, that's still not good. And one corner absorber is not nearly enough for an entire room anyway.

Ok, I think we're getting our wires crossed.....I apprciate the your time and help Eathin, but I realy would like to know the reasons for this setup not working so I can understand it more, not just Yes or No (sorry, please don't get me wrong, there's ne disrespect intended at all man)....
Also, re; corner absorber, I was only talking about that particular corner for now, I by not means meant it as the only one in the room.....
Any other help would be great, From Eathin or anyone else...PLEASE!

Man, have I pissed off people 'round here? Is my question that stupid/boring? Or is the board REALY SLOW atm? LOL!!! I'll be starting construction soon.....

Mem,

> I realy would like to know the reasons for this setup not working <

One problem with having loudspeakers in a corner is that excites the room modes more which skews the low end response.

> have I pissed off people 'round here? Is my question that stupid/boring? <

Not at all! I have time to visit here only once per day. So a question asked today won't be answered until tomorrow. :D

mem - if I understand you correctly you have two 6m x 3m areas and you intend to create a 3m x 3m control room and a 3m x 3m booth and a 6m x 3m studio??

That's a really small control room !!- why not have a 6m x 3m good control room and 4m x 3m studio and a 2m x 3m booth??

cheers
john

Eathin...Thanks man....Is there no way around that?

John...Yeah man, two 6x3 rooms....Now that's the thing, the wall hasn't gone in yet so once all the office shit (from my uncle's office, ie the 3x6 bside my 3x6) is out I can chalk everything up and where the wall goes is compleatly flexable....The only thing that I'd like is to be able to stick a drum setup in the small room for the flexability in sound between the two rooms.....

No. Check out John and Ethans websites. They both have good acoustics primers.

Mem,

> Bump....Again... <

I already told you that having your loudspeakers facing out from a corner is a bad layout. What more can I say? If there were a "way around that" I'd tell you. Honest!
