I was wondering if anyone can tell me if studio monitors will degrade in quality after years of use or not. I am currently looking at a pair of 10 yr old monitors and wondering if they are worth the saving or not.??

the monitors are = Tannoy PBM 6.5

I would also appreciate any feedback on those particular monitors as well

thanks

Well my monitors were made in 1976 so I would hope not.

I would guess quality of components and manufacture might be a factor.

Some older speakers have drivers with foam surrounds that can disinegrate over time. If they look OK, they probably sound the same as they did when new.

thanks for the info guys, im still tossing back and forth between the old tannoy pbm's and a new set of wharfedale 8.2a's

??

Got the honor of listening to a tracking session at Danial Lanois Kingsway studio in New Orleans. The weird looking monitors sounded fantastic. I asked "whats up w/ those monitors?"....................."Oh, those old things came out of Abbey Road, they were used to mix Dark Side of the Moon."

So I guess quality monitors will stand up over the test of time.
