You didnt like it?
I cant understand that really. I know the master output peaks because i recorded the mix straight to CD in real time and didnt check the levels as i was in a hurry. And the vox are pretty bland (mixing wise). And it wasnt automated!!
But i was pretty happy with it. I was in the studio today and i have finalised the mix, so i just need to master it now. Are you a producer? it dont seem like you maybe have the ears for it.

lets put it another way......

the guitar was so scooped...if you were in a 3 room rehersal place and your band was in room one......I'd say the guitar was from the band playing in room three. Maybe it's your ears that are painted on. ;)

Everything was tracked seperately and i was most happy with the guitars!
I used a Marshall DSL50 tube amp with 1960 cab which sounds meaty and in your face. I used an sm57 and a c1000 (i know a bit wierd but still good). I close miked them at around 3-5cm. Pointed one near to the middle of a speaker and the other close to the outside of another speaker. They were at the same distance so as not to cause any phasing issues. Added small amounts of compression and little EQ touches. I took away some high and low end. THe low end was taken away so the bass had room to TRY and stand out! (i know the bass isnt great as i used a peavey amp and a bad yamaha bass guitar)
Im not sure exactly what you think is wrong with the guitars. Are you into this type of music, cause if not then you might not know what a good heavy distorted guitar should sound like.
Is there any other things that you think arent good?
The vox mix is bad and the bass is a bit bland but i like the drums (the cymbals are pretty old so dont have that crisp high end shimmer)
I have fixed the mix to my best knowledge by adding a vocal enhancer (distorter) and fine tuned certain eqs and levels and i have automated the whole mix.
Agree to disagree?
I will post the final mastered mix in a few days and by all means slate it please and tell me if you think there is an improvement.

Hi: Man, the performances on this track sound way too good for this mix.

I think the lack of "sizzle" on the kit is the least of your problems, really. The snare's ringing BAD, and the kick sounds like a turkey baster hitting an empty milk carton...just **thud** *thud*. The guitars are too overdriven...reminds me of a swarm of bees. There's just fuzz without the crunch.

I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm just relatively convinced that you're not hearing how this really sounds. What is your monitoring setup? When you play this next to a commercial mix that you like, do they seem very similar?

The guitar does sound pretty distant and scooped. I'd suggest adjusting the mic placement a bit, even for this style of music, it can be ok to sound so far out, but there's not really anything else behind it, so it kind of sounds like there's really not much meat to it. And the kick does sound kinda thubby. Vocals sound really far away. Other than that aspect of the guitar, the tone is pretty good sounding, but too spread out and midrangey thin for my taste, for such a sound.

The song's are pretty good.

But like other suggest the recording and or the mix could have be done much better.

Overal there is 2 much bottom in the sound. I suggest 2 cut a bit low end (< 70 hz-3 or so) and or low mid (200-400 hz).

What lemmon tree was trying 2 say (i think) is that it sound 2 roomy.
And maybe the room were you did tracking sounds not so good.

but i like the songs a lot

cheers alot for the feedback.
The room i recorede everything in was very small. Just enough room for around two drum kits!! not that i uses two kits, just giving an idea of the size.
I thought the guitars were good. Do you think i used too much distortion?
I am only talking about the PHRANTIK song as the others wernt recorded by me.
I took some bass end off the guitars as it was too much and left some room for the bass guitar.
