Digital whaaa?
I'd like to get a decent kit in the room that I and others can use to track with. They won't be used live or to gig with.

I haven't played drums or owned a kit in 30 years now and I don't really know how to judge the quality of the kits offered today except by price.

Some recommendations on a good sounding six or seven shell kit with a single kick would be appreciated. Brand is not an issue, money is around a grand. Snare should be tight and crisp.

Music is pop/rock mix. No metal.

Any of the big name-brand kits will serve you well. I don't know if you'll find a new kit that big for only a grand, but used shouldn't be a problem. I'm of the opinion that head choice and tuning plays a larger role in the overall sound than the shell material does, so I'd recommend not getting too caught up in what the drums are actually made of and just find you a nice deal.

Thanks. What heads would you recommend for that type of music I listed?

You really can't go wrong with 2-ply over 1-ply on toms (Emperors over Ambassadors or G2 over G1, depending on your brand preference), 1-ply dot over snareside on snare, and some sort of head with an inner muffling ring on bass drum.
