Studio Furniture Laminate

Hi, so I've built a desk to house my recording equipment out of MDF. Does anyone have any links to sites that sell sheets of Formica or other Laminates to cover it with? Thanks,

Call a small local outlet for flooring and laminates. They'll have samples from WilsonArt and Formica and a couple other brands. Tell them what you want, and they'll have it for you in a few days to a week.

You'll need to go to Home Depot or similar to find contact cement to adhere it to the MDF.

we also built a desk for our gear out of mdf and found a really good (dark) wood stain gel. we applied two coats and gave it plenty of drying time and it came up lovely. I even played a roland octopad on top of it for an hour and there wasnt a mark on it, (it was supposed to be resting on a couple of carpet tiles but they we're moved without my noticing!!) enclosed is a photo of the desk before we loaded it up fully. it was a lot easier than cutting and gluing laminates etc. Hope this helps.

Hey!! You have the same monitor set-up as I do. Ra 100 and Point 7's. I have had mine for about 5 years now. I can get some good mixes on 'em but always have to be aware of the low end problems they have.
I upgraded to Mackie HR824's recently,..but keep the Point 7's around to A+B with,..cause I'm so used to them.

What do you think of 'em? How long have you been mixing with them?

If you have to sit on somebody's lap to reach the keyboard I think you're a little too young to be playing around with such a nice studio!

I've had the Point 7's for about 3 years and yes they have a huge low end problem. Everything that I mixed on them comes out really bass heavy. I just purchased the Alesis Monitor One Mk2's and I like them a lot and I can actually hear the low end now which is good, they're in a box until I'm done with my studio though. I'll probably keep my Point7's for A/B as well.

How do you know its not your room? Even a different brand may be lying if your room is too. Thats not to say your room IS the culpret, but this is a VERY common complaint against MANY brands of monitors, UNTILL, it is discovered the room was the problem.

I almost forgot, Home Depot and Lowes stock common colors of laminates, and some to match countertops they sell. Or Store Fixture outlets usually do to. Even some cabinet shops, or woodworking shops. They usually have leftovers from jobs they might be willing to sell cheap. And then there is Chemetals too. GREAT stuff. Even laminates that look like diamond plate steel. MILLIONS of choices now days. Abet Laminati has some fantastic stuff. But hard to find a source for it. There actually are many other fine lines of laminates, each with their specialties. Store fixture places usually have all the samples. Check one out if you can. One word to the wise. Gloss laminates shouldn't be used on horizontal work surfaces, as they scratch fairly easy.
