Just made this as a demo for a full band set with my new equipment, please do check it out and tell me what you think. It's a rough mix and still has vocals to do but I figure why not at least get some feedback. Thanks

It's the "Big Valley Studio Demo" song (all the other ones were made with old equipment):

Right off the bat, before I even listen to the song, I have to say that myspace sucks for sharing your stuff. Soundclick and reverbnation are just a few of the many great sites that you can upload at a decent quality, and its just for your music, nothing else.
I think the snare needs a little eq to make it more defined (just curious, did you mic the bottom of the snare also). Kind of sounds like it, if you did, I like to turn the underneath mic down and pan it hard either direction. The overall snare sound is probably the only thing I can hear that I dont like about this mix. Great job. I really like the song too. It sounds like the vocals could either use a Scott Stapp(but better), or Scott Weiland type singer. Listen to some STP and focus on their vocals, hard to emulate, but would sound great here. Very well done!

Funny thing about the snare is the the bottom part isn't miked at all haha I had to EQ it to bring out the high end a lot more. The mic I was using for the bottom of the snare broke in half (don't ask how...) and I'm waiting for a new drum set to come in before I set that mic back up. But yeah thanks! I have a rough idea of how the vocals will be like but nothing specific yet.

I love the groove of this song, bro. Good stuff.

Sounds like the drums have an enormous amount of compression going on. Maybe a bit too much?

The guitar work is awesome, man... I wish I knew how to play. at all. heh..

It might be the quality of the mp3, but the whole sound sounds a bit closed to my ears (listening through crappy headphones, so, take with salt)... Panning maybe? EQ'ing the top-end maybe?

The song has a ton of potential - really rockin'... I'd love to hear the uncompressed version (as in, the original, not the mp3).

Good work!

There is a lot of compression on the drums which may give it that sound but it's because I'm working with a very crappy pare of drums to record with. Listening to them uncompressed sounds like a recording from 1930. I'll see if I can get rid of the completely compressed-ish sound though, thanks!

The drummer I got them from: "They're top-of-the line drums, were very expensive."

Me: "When did you get them?"

Drummer: "1986 I think."

(Quote from an actual conversation...)

Anyways, I have new drums coming in even though I probably will leave this set on this song. The purpose of it is to put on the studio website as a sound sample that locals can listen to as an advertising method.

I agree the song sounds like it has a lot of potential and the guitar work is very colorful and interesting.

I'm not digging the snare sound. There is no crackle--almost sounds like you're hitting a suitcase with a yardstick.

I found the cymbals very splashy and harsh, but based on experience I'm certain the CrapSpace player is at least part of the reason for that.

myspace quality is definately very low, iv noticed it on previous songs. Totally agree with the STP vocal idea!
