Studio fire destroys Black Eyed Peas' gear

Associated Press

BURBANK, Calif. - A fire that broke out early Wednesday in a studio where the Black Eyed Peas were recording a new album destroyed about $500,000 in gear and instruments, authorities and band members said.

The fire erupted around 3 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Place Studios, where the group was recording the album "Monkey Business." No one was injured.

Capt. Ron Bell said band members lit candles during a recording session and forgot to blow them out. Bell said damage to the building was about $50,000.

The band, which performed at the Democratic National Convention, said it was devastated by the loss.

"Guitars, drums, drum kits, keyboards, microphones, classic instruments that we've collected with our worldly travels are now destroyed," band member Will I. Am told KABC-TV.

The moral of that is, don't let the musicians think they're in charge.

they should have enough money to replace the gear...if not then I'd pay 15 for a fergie playboy spread.

This is more for the studio building board, but WHY DID THEY HAVE a) CANDLES and b) INFLAMMABLE GOBOS!!!!????!!!!!!

Man, wouldn't you think the head engineer or the assistant engineer (or someone, anyone) would have seen the candles and put them out as part of the clean-up, last check before we go home process???

Notice that it didn't say that they'd gone home. Either that reports too short or they (the newspaper) intentionally left out some important details.

Hey, the DNC is flush with money. Why don't they get the DNC to replace the equipment. That having been said, it makes you wonder how much insurance they had.

Just a few thoughts, Steve

A lady at the studio said the fire wasn't that bad. The record label will be picking up all tabs for any replacement gear or facility fixes, and for lost time while it's being fixed.

H2H

I'm sure if they ask George Soros, he'll help them out....
Honestly though, how stupid is that??? Candles... left burning.... in a studio.... full of great gear..... left burning.... etc....

Candles. My ass.

They probably clam baked that place so badly they couldn't see where they dropped the blunt.
