Studio Diarys

Samuel Pepys, Tony Benn, Alan Clarke, Sir Alex Ferguson, Charles Darwin, Daniel Defoe, Captain Cook, Tenessee Williams, Kenneth Kaunda, Lewis Carroll, Harry Truman, Alistair Campbell......there are some really famous diaries by political/sporting figures down the years, mostly blokes. Some of them read like high school girlies though - or are at least comparable, if any of the sneak peeks of my youth are anything to go by....

I know some folks are compelled to keep diaries...as it's almost therapeutic, the act of writing your thoughts down, like a self-administered confessional or off-the-cuff biography/history of their life…though it wasn't anything I ever felt the urge to do. My private thoughts are in...well, in my head, so no need to write them down too! :)
But that aside....
I could NEVER understand why people have an urge to do the same thing on the Internet...the whole "blog" thing.
I can see using a blog for outlining some process...like a recording session...but the way some like to "spill their guts" on the Internet, often revealing some very private/personal information...I don't get that.
Is that just some sort of ego-centric "all about me" kind of thing???
Like the people that need to get on Dr. Phil or Oprah or Jerry Springer to air out their dirtiest laundry on national TV...
...WTF???

I play some some crossharp, even studied under Joe Filisko at the Old Town School, but I don't really do much that I want to stick to disc. I was always much more interested in playing the studio behind the glass as my instrument.

that's cool. nothing wrong with that. i wasn't asking to be a dick, i was just curious. i can see why you feel more strongly against this type of software, but it serves its purpose and i would think has a niche. i didn't read the specs on it though and am basing that opinion on how it was described in this thread.

Also not trying to be a dick, but I think maybe you have your threads crossed ;). I assume you're talking about that auto-mix software?

I just look at "auto-mix" software the way that a songwriter might look at software that writes the songs for them or a guitar player might look at software that plays the guitar for them. When you take out the human element, you take out the entire reason for even making the music - at least from the music-maker's point of view. For me, the production behind the glass is the sixth band member in a five man band, and there is not only no way that one can program a computer (under today's technology) to replace the human element in either making or mixing music, but it pretty much negates the entire reason for even doing it.

That's just POV/IMHO and all that. I'm NOT trying to lay that down as gospel (though for me it is ;) ).

not getting threads crossed. you didn't answer the post that i quoted in the other thread. that's why i said "but since i have your attention:"...

and there shouldn't need to be a 6th band member when you are recording by yourself in your garage. ;)

Because I was through with that thread and didn't come back to it. I never saw your question. And I'm not going to continue that waste of a thread here; it's already starting to attract flies.
