Studio Design; Signal Flow

Hey, i'm currently having a go at designing a studio, and was wondering about the studio's signal flow/chain.

At the moment i've drawn it out as;

Mics > Pre Amp > Patchbay > Audio Interface > Computer

Was wondering if this made sense?

sure it makes sense... i would question at this point whether you need a patch bay... no use doing it and "possibly" adding noise if ya dont have to... i would be more worried at this point about keeping the audio and powerlines from runningalong each other...

I'm wondering if you need the preamp, most interface already have them built in, does yours?
