i was thinking this would be the opening song to my demo.

stuck -

The bass line in the intro certainly adds interest.
After that the bass seems a little dull in tone - not so much when doing runs but when chugging - which is a bummer as the lines are good and the critter is certainly up front enough to please a bass player (me).
The song is really good - seems like a very good new wave track - still has some punky energy & that British Sneer in the vocal that are both very attractive.
Nice gtr sounds - the mandolinsh lead bits work REALLY well.
Is it too late to fiddle with the bass?

no i can mess with the bass, that's why i put the song up :). i was thinking maybe more low end? maybe.

The bass seems in line with the other song (True)... so I think it's a good volume. It's like a lead bass - my buddy Mike would approve....:)
This is mixed a bit different on the vocals - seem more compressed and farther away. I'd maybe bring them up a bit if it were me....the lead is drowning it out a bit....
Another good tune.....

What are monitoring on? The reason I ask is that it seems a bit lacking at both extremes of the spectrum.

In that vein, I think the kick could be eq'ed to take some of the 150-400Hz woolyness out.

I quite like the tune, but i feel like that it would flow better 5-10bpm faster (or with faster chorus').
Arrangement wise the "lead" guitar that essentially always there, and seems to ramble on. Maybe try cutting back, cause then you will notice it more when it plays something cool. For example, the ending where it doubles the bass line, I would quite like the bass having the spotlight for a few bars.

i hear what you're saying about the arrangement but i think it's a bit too late to start changing stuff up now. i don't think the lead guitar does anything that's ever really cool, not that i don't like it, but it's never a doing a congested "spot light" riff. it sorta plays melodiously with the song. I purposely put the bass up because i thought it was the star of the show.

ido - i was thinking about bring up the vox a bit too.

i'm monitoring on krk rp 5's btw

sounds british and sounds like you got a thing for justin timberlake:D

I like your rhythm guit, bass, drums and vox best

new mix with the vocals up a bit and the compression on the bass messed with.
