I belong to the Cakewalk Clan so I'd rather like to ask my Sonar family members here some mastering questions. Thing is, I'm struggling with Wavelab 4.0. I'm not good at reading the manual. It's frustrating at times.

Here are my problems.

1. when I apply Multi-band Compressor things sound loud and good, but after I "render" it and turn off the effect, the resulting track is not the same as when the effect was on.

2. How do you apply effects on certain part of the track? Say, if I want to apply "auto pan" on just the intro part.

3. How do you make sure you get even loudness on all individual tracks? Do you use audio montage, if so you do it after you treated and save all the individual tracks?

Thanks

Don't know why that might be. Should be the same after rendering. (BTW, you shouldn't have to turn off the effect after rendering, it should defaullt to bypass.)

Highlight the section of the track you want to effect, and then render it. From the render dialogue, choose "selection" rather than "whole file."

Yup, Audio montage. I do it after I have individually "mastered" each track; however, you can make additional volume adjustments using the volume envelopes foiund in the Audio Montage. Play one song directly into the next. If the transition is not smooth, adjust the volumes using the envelopes.
