IS this the right thread? I'm using Cubase anyways...

Can anyone recommend a good (orchestral) string plugin, synth or sample based, soundfont or VSTi? There are quite a lot out there so does anyone like a particular one that actually sounds good - a lot of demos I've tried are pretty crummy sounding.

I was reaal impressed with the writeups on Halion String Edition, but then I cheaped out and went with the Acid Orchestral Library (I do a lot of my development in Acid, then port over to Cubase to finish up) - big mistake.

But I shoulld clarify I haven't actually heard the String Edition - just liked the writeups...

How slow am I at replying???

Anyhow I use Halion strings and must say that I love it. Sounds are very natural. I have also just got my hands on Kontakt, but dont have a string library for it yet. A friend of mine uses Kontakt and soundfonts for strings and says its great. I have also used Gigastudio but the libraries are so damn expensive and it uses heaps of cpu power to run alongside Cubase. The nice thing with Halion is that its a plugin and doesnt use much extra juice.

Cheers
