Band is Poetry of the Dead, Louisville Ky. I wrote some string parts for this one and about 10 other songs after recording them for the band.

Primarily, I want to know what you think of the string parts I wrote for this stuff right after the 1st chorus and during the 2nd verse. Is it too much? too overbearing? Just right? Breathe enough? Does it fit?

General opinions are welcome also, I'm really diggin the balls out of this stuff and wondering if I've just grown biased from hearing it so many times and getting my hands dirty in it.

Too much strings too soon i recon. Maybe they come in after the first chorus. Build up the track like that... But the parts are nice, add a double bass and get it to really growl, I did it with some midi stuff -

Too give you an idea of what i had in mind. But i like the parts, the definatly add to the song.

Btw how did you get the kick sound? I LOVE it man!

The kick- I have an old PC monitor with a built in mic in the front face of it. I stuck the whole monitor inside the kick facing the beater, and put the resonant head back on, ran it through an RNP and there it was. No eq, no nothing. Incredible eh? Its my new kick mic from now on.

The strings I would like to build in after the 1st chorus like you said, but he wants them to start right where they do, and its this dudes prject, so thats how it is. I mentioned it to him too. He's given me a lot of freedom to mess with it, but what he wants he wants.

SO you dont think anything I did kills it then. Thats good. :)
Thanks for checking it out.
Oh, I was just joking about the kick. The dude has the worst possible sounding drum kit ever. No reso heads at all, most cymbals were cracked and broke, the heads were totally dimpled and dead... I re-triggered all his kicks with the kick from DFH and there it is. I added a tad of EQ and compression, thats it.
Had ya goin though, didn't I? ;)
Peace

I think i need to start playing around with some triggers, it would make life so much easier.

And I totaly knew you we're joking about the moniter, all the time...yup......*cough*...i knew your game...no sir, I totally knew it was a joke....*gulp*..oops ;) lol

Yeah, you were already thinking about hitting some yard sales... ;)

Pretty sweet mix!

However...

The snare is a tad boxy, and the vox slip outta tune from time to time.
Arangement sounded good though.

Nice work Tube.

Thankee.

Snare, I might be able to mess with, but I dont really find it boxy. Its kinda thick and still snappy IMO. I'll mess with it a tad and see what happens. I think it could use SOMETHING. Not sure what.
As far as vocals out of tune, nothing Daddy Tube can do about that ;)
