Well...
every generation feel thats way sure... they sense and feel and notice the "change", which is usually fairly minor.
I am sure as classical gave way to jazz, people thought it was horrible (have seen this in print)
I know that when elvis and rock and roll came, that surely was the last straw!
TV was turning people into "couch potatoes", and with no programming at night, and only a few channels to choose from! The TV generation castigated video games!
We are experiencing something infinitely more catastrophic... a nearly total and complete breakdown in moral fiber. You dont MAKE a willful child take out the garbage... you talk him into it, you bargain with him, bribe him... it has to be HIS decision to do it. What utter shite! Teachers lecturing 1st graders that if ANYone hits or smacks them, they are to call the police! Parents that YELL too much can be considered abusive.
then they wonder why 10 or 12 year olds refuse to come home for curfew, and stay out all night drinking, like they are college age or something. Quit going to school, and start hanging out with other delinquents, committing bigger and bigger crimes until they are drug dealing murderers, or simple burgling addicts!
I have seen "papers" by high school students, and NO remedial students mind you... that have absolutely no idea what commas are for. What paragraphs are for. Oh, they know they NEED them, so they are all randomly put in in the final draft. THEY ARE GETTING A B ON THIS !!!
I wouldnt have gotten out of 7th grade with that, and this from a senior in college prep course!!
When teens are caught drinking or smoking pot by a policeman, they should at least be properly respectful, take the lecture. They should NOT start swearing and mouthing off to the policeman. Take them to the parents? You get "well, yeah, she really has a mind of her own. Its a phase, I think... what can you do *shrugs* "
Its a 2 phase process... first phase, is by example. Kids dont see dad read the newspaper, or books in the evening. Studying, for no money,a difficult hobby. Whatever small value scholarship once had is utterly lost. You look for the EASY way out now... you SUE someone over a manufactured injury. You lie, cheat, and steal... and hold out how CLEVER you are.
second phase... you are quiet. Polite. You pay your bills. You live IN your means instead of BEYOND them. And when you hear "the mouth" you backhand them and set them on their @$$, and walk away calmly.
*shrugs* you set the example, and when its not noticed, you suddenly react. Some kids need a good backhand about once a year, some several times a year. You just can't neglect the example you set.
This permissive liberal hippie sh!t has gone on for like 2 or 3 generations now, and its getting progressively worse with each. "They" keep responding with MORE of this permissive crap.
the usual thing, with "every generation thinks that" was just how much TV people watched, what music was popular, or what have you small thing... we ar experiencing a complete breakdown of everything, from crime, to costs, to ethics, to illiteracy, you NAME it... rome is not smouldering anymore... its well ablaze.
Good christ... you have a willful, lazy, mouthy child that *thinks* they dont have to do as well as they can in school, do chores, be home when told to, and not commit crimes constantly? They dont need COUNSELING, they need a simple backhand the first time you hear "the mouth", then it never gets started. Practically ALL kids get just WONDERFUL grades and enjoy sports and such, until they hit the start of middle school... and meet delinquents.
Next thing you know... failing grades, dropping out of sports and whatever lessons they take... spending all day and night "hanging out"...
Just in case you wondered... thats about the right time for the occasional backhand to start.
