It's got a cool torque just right for string changing. Too slow for the Zeppelin thing...plus it's plastic....

Oh, man, a cool use of that thing would be, at the end of a song, play each string, one at a time, and then put that thing on the string's tuner, and let 'er rip...

Used it for the first time this morning. You have to keep the thing at the right angle to keep from wobbling too much. And it's slow enough that you can get your fingers out of the way before it winds it so tight it cuts off your circulation. Well almost slow enough lol... I was worried about th wobbling affecting the alignment of the pegs but I think the manual ones put about the same pressure on the pegs. Anyway it was a quick and easy string change for my Strat...

I've got a string winder with just a stem on it- I chuck it into my cordless screwdriver, or drill if I want to wind strings FAST. But having a dedicated tool for the job does have it's advantages.

I've considered one of those.
Right now I have a manual winder, which is still pretty darn fast and it's small/lightweight and easy to store/pack.

I have a hand cranked winder & used it on a classical/nylon string guitar - wasn't paying attention & ripped the pearloid/plastic knobs off. Embarrassing & infuriating all at once. I haven't used either since.

Guitarists have it easy. Yall think guitar strings are monotonous and time consuming? Try changing drumheads. I use a small makita and a drum key that I cut the head off of. It makes taking them off quick, but you still should install the new ones the old fashioned way - by hand.

Yeah, Greg, I feel your pain. I have the same powered setup, and it comes in handy. I thought I would have to change the batter heads on THREE kits in the same 1-hour window, between the weekly sessions of the rock n roll summer camp last summer (we did it again this year, but thankfully, only here in Atlanta- Boca Raton ate our lunch)- the contract called for "new or like-new" heads at the beginning of each session. I was prepared, with head sets, power-winder setup, and Drum Dial. Turned out, most of the heads were fine. Lucky break.

I've used one for years. Ever try to string an upright bass?
True story. Grandson and I were changing strings. He was in charge of
the drill. I attached it to the peg and he carefully started it up. Nothing
happened. I checked it out and said start it again. In about
15 seconds BANG! We were startled to the max! I had put in on the
wrong tuner.
