Stright into PC?!

hi all , i'm new here, just having a few problems on recording guitar tune into my PC, is that possible to plug my electric guitar stright into the PC?! (without any amp or pre-amp!?) or is there any software could ''act'' like a ''pre-amp'' in the computer so i don't need my amp anymore to record tune stright into my PC!?

you need a di box or preamp to get a good guitar signal into your pc. after that, you can use amp simulators and effects plugins.
 
No, but you could get something like a Line6 Guitarport for cheap... That'll let you plug directly into the computer, mix your music and even has an amp emulator.
