I don't think I have ever posted this before. If I did, it was a LONG time ago. I posted some other Movements of this Piece, but I dont think I ever posted this one.

Upon looking at Rat's thread about mastering, I decided to mess with one of my own recordings. Man, what I have learned from you bozos. A live recording which has been given new life, thanks to plug-ins.

http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1353&alid=-1

It is the Stravinsky Duo Concertante, at the bottom. I am very proud of this one. Enjoy.

sweet piece..

every so often I heard some very minor crackling, but I enjoyed it far too much to care about little things like that.. figured I would mention it though..

I have been listening to some classical lately (Bach), in particular, 'suite 5 (1-6) (Yo-Yo Ma), so I was ready for this tune..

nothing short of excellent.. I dug it heavily..

finish our collab or I will kill myself.. :)

That's a nice violin patch you have going on the keyboard!

Shit David, that's awsome. I'd listened to this one before. By the way, I saw Yes here not too long ago. No horns or strings this time. Again, great playing.

Thanks Kids:)

Sam, I didnt even know this Concert was recorded. I taped it off the Radio with a Cheap-ass tape player. I was excited that I could finally make it sound OK with Plug-ins, which I knew nothing about before I joined this Group.

Track Rat, my Contract with YES this Year was cancelled a few weeks ago, and I was Crushed, but I figured it would happen. The audience last year was so small that I actually felt bad for them. I hope they dont play at Holiday Inns on the next tour.

Nice David.I can see why you're sought after by some of the top acts around. This is the first song I've heard from you since I've been posting(although I am well acquainted with your other love, photo alterations down in the cave.:D).Nice playing.I enjoyed it.

Beautiful, David...brings me back to my days in the gulag :D

BTW, what plugins did you use and how do you think they helped you?

Sam, have you listened to the Brandenburg Concertos? Really good stuff. For some reason guitar players are attracted to Bach.

cool....
so can I critique this or no...? :D

it all went downhill after Beethoven... he... he.... :)

I understand why you're proud of this...absolutely superb.

p.s. Your "Swag drowning in his own tears" avatar is hilarious.

A great job of playing on your part... but the recording quality is such that the piano in particular is somewhat indistinct, and it almost sounds like something's wrong with the part from time to time, like it's out of tune or the tempo is wrong... but maybe it's just Stravinsky.

What did you do with the plug-ins to improve it? Tell us! I'm curious about how bad it was before you cleaned it up.

Really nice piece!
Even with the quality of the recording, your talent shines
through!:D

Sorry to hear about them canceling on you!:(

To bad about Yes,their one of the greatest!
Made a differance in my life.

They were great on their TV special.
Were you in on that?

I heard Rick Wakeman was back with them, their show's must be awsome!

I don't know what their ticket prices are,but Bruce recently set a good example around here,I don't think any of his tickets were more than 80$.
If all the older groups went back to the good old days when any slob could afford to see them,I'm sure they'd be performing until they had to wheel em out!
I'd be there,in my wheel chair!:D

Good luck!

Best to you,
Pete

Good stuff Davey K!!! I would also be interested in hearing a before and after thing of your mastering job!

Great piece. Great playing, sensitive, reflective, nice space and openess. My only criticism would be a slight peak on the violin in the upper mids.

It was a little difficult for me to make out the vocals, and the fiddles were played WWWAAAAYYY too slow, but considering these limitations, it's a really great recording.

(I'm useless...ignore me)

Depth, emotion, and clarity. Killer combination. (By the way, being fairly new, I hadn't heard this before...if anyone reading this actually played any of the instruments, then tack on about 10 stars).

:D

Thanx everyone. Yup the Orginal really sucked. This one sucks, but what a difference. Right now I am getting back into the Music, putting the photoshop second, and learning about the mixing/mastering/plug-in stuff, which I have not used much before. I will try a test next week: take a recording of me in Concert, use a bunch of plug-ins, and put up an A/B comparision. I will make each clip about a minute for easy comparision. I used the waves L1 ultramaximizer, which unfortunately maximizes the noise as well, but at least you can hear the darn fiddle.

Chris, I am the Violinist in the recording. The Pianist is a Russian artist, Sergei Zilper. This is a live recording done a few years ago at the College we taught at.

Since you didn't teach English, and since you're a truly gifted musician, I won't even mention the fact that you ended your last sentence with a preposition. Yup,[not a word] I'm gonna' [nonexistent contraction] let it slide right by [commits identical error as that complained OF...again]

Once more, nice work.

Great stuff.

I'm not familiar with Stravinsky, or much classical in general. When I do listen it's usually solo classical guitar or piano renditions of Beethoven, Chopin, Bach - all the rock stars.

But anyway,

02:03 -02:06 is groovy. as is 02:15 - 02:32.

Nice playing though, that much I can tell.

please forgive uneducated pesant for asking but ... at 2:49 is it supposed to be the way it is? :)
cheers

Yes, that is how it goes. Those notes are artificial harmonics.

You sir, are a musician!!

That was very nice. I'm not much into classical, but having you around should really help!!

Long hair music that you can't headbang to. What will they think of next?

Great work!!

Thanks for the introduction to Stravinsky. I only know of him by way of Frank Zappa... he loved Stavinsky. Excellent work all around. Thanks for the tune.
