Made you look. :D

Here's the question: When you are playing your guitar, standing, with the strap on, how high or low are you positioning your guitar?

I could never play with the thing hanging way down. I've always kept the guitar positioned fairly high, maybe a bit lower than what you might see a tradional C&W guitarist doing.

It doesn't look cool, and you can't do Townsend windmills, but that's where I've got to keep it to be able to control what I'm doing.

How 'bout 'yall?

Same here.

I always wished I could play the 'Jimmy Page down to your knees' style, but I guess my arms aren't long enough.

I always seem to want my picking forearm to be as close to parallel to the strings as possible. I know, looks country, and I am all rock'n'roll.

Hee hee hee! Haw haw!

Strap is set to the same height as my guitar is at when I am sitting with it.

Funny you should mention this...for the first ten years I played the thing, I always thought that the "gunfighter" guitar, hanging down as far as I could reach it, was cool. Once I got a few real chops that required dexterity, things like sweep arpeggios and quick jazz chord changes, I found that I had to move my instrument up to Steve Howe-like position to have the thing work right. In fact, everything you read in those technique books is true, and it took me many years to unlearn a lot of bad habits.

it saved my wrist those hours of post show aches from playing my guitar at knee level lol!

Good thing is that i learned proper height at a younger age, so I saved myself alot of unlearning :)

I think I'm playin em at about the same height you do - I play acoustics and a Heritage archtop, and I like to have both up fairly high on me for ease of playing.

When I strap on the Heritage 150 (Les Paul-style body) with the same strap I use on the other ones, it always feels too low, and its nowhere near far as down as, say , Townsend, or perhaps any of the modern rock/punk/whatever players...

Yeah, its not cool, but its a Hell of a lot more comfortable - especially since I don't play with a pick, and for the most part, my hand is positioned such that my fingers are what you would consider parallel to the string direction, maybe angled downward toward the horn of the guitar around 30 degrees. Playing with really low guitar positioning would start to hurt in about 5 minutes :)

I wear it so high, I actually have to reach up to play it.

Well maybe not, but I wear it pretty darn high. I prefer comfort over coolness. And besides - I think it looks cooler anyway.

Well, assuming that's you in your sig, then no one will question it no matter how you play. :D

I play with the bridge in front of my belly button. It's slightly lower than if you were to sit an play. It's also the most comfortable position for me. My bass sits at about the same place, maybe slightly lower, since I tend to tilt the neck way up and play it almost like an upright, Bunny Brunel style.

I'm on the right in the picture with the white guitar. It's slung pretty high now that I look at it..... :D

I wear my guitar up about the same as The Beatles do.
I play heavy rock/metal music.

I think its the new guitar hanging style for heavy music.
Give it a few years and everyone will be doing it. :)

I have to admit I have difficulty with the whole guitar hieght thing. It all depends what I'm playing. If I'm just bashing out a bucnh of power chords, or playing something in a non technical 'puck rock' style, then I want it as low as possible otherwise I'm not comfortable, but for technical stuff I need it at thesame hieght it would be when I'm sitting down.

That said I really don't play standing up very much at all. I don't have a band or play gigs. It's all either noodling around or recording. Neither of which I feel it beneficial to be standing up for. I used to play standing up pretty much exclusively because I preferred it. But after years of just sitting down, I suck standing up.

You need some kind of photo editing software to resize your picture. Have a look at http://www.tucows.com and you can probably find some freeware that will do it.

Yeah, that's me - although I don't quite play it that high :p

i hang my bass low...REAL low. I play finger style and I need to let my right arm hang free and loose or I get sore. Picture Cliff Burton from early metallica with less hair and more strings.

I wear my guitar just were it is comfortable. My right arm is at about a 45 degree angle to the strings and I kinda hunch up over it and dig in. My pick hand is always anchored to the guitar between the bridge pickup and the bridge by my pinkey finger. That helps me play accurrately because I have a tactile reminder of my exact positioning at all times.

I'm sure you all have your own little tricks.

I play way up, like a nerdy jazz guy, except i play a lot of drop D metal.
Its just easier that way, the NU-Metal eyes rolled into your skull guitar by your ankles thing is VERY inpractical, you have no control!!!!

tucows ?

i had a look at tucows ........... i got nuttin ?? i would not know even where to begin .........

Most of those guys just bang out power chords anyway......and sloppy ones, too. 'Cause that's cool, mang. Playing tight and clean is boring, yo.
