Storing samples on network share

Hello, I was wondering if it is possible to store sample libraries on a network share and access them from there. E.G. I have NI Battery installed on my laptop, and would really like to move the libraries to another PC which has more disk space. I am not sure if vst programs load their samples into memory and access them from there or if they are reading from disk which might cause latency issues.
