Stomp Boxes/Send & Return lines

I directly recorded a guitar track into my DP-01FX. I originally wanted to add some distortion to it but I know you can't plug a line in directly from an amp so I was thinking of using the send & returns to go to a guitar stomp box. Will this work at all? I don't wanna blow anything up so I wanted to ask here first to get some professional advice.

If it will work, what return do I use, L or R? Can this be done with all effects like wah wahs too? Thanks!

If you have a jack labeled 'line out' or 'direct out' on your amp try using that. They will be line level and that's what your DP01 expects. Otherwise, you could just try plugging the guitar straight into the box, then the box into the input of the recorder. Be careful that you don't push too much level out of your distortion box - the level should be about equal when you have the distortion switched on or off. The third option would be to spend a little dough on something like this. Bands I've recorded have used these, and I've been impressed with the bang for the buck...
