I recently bought a Turner model 99 mic off ebay and it REEKS of stale tobacco smoke. Its been around since the 40's, so god knows how many years of smoke have accumulated on it. anybody know any tricks how to de-stink a mic without damaging it? thanks!

If you've got a glass jar and lid or Rubbermaid-type plastic box with lid that it'll fit inside, buy a box of baking soda, and dump the baking soda into the bottom of the jar or box. Carefully place a clean, dry washcloth overthe top of the baking soda, and lay the mic on top of it. Seal the jar or box and leave it in a warm, dry room for a couple days. Take the mic out after a couple of days and voila!... no more stink. ;)

That sounds like something from 'Household hints and handy tips' by none other than Ronald L. McDonald
