Why do all of these mixers only output two tracks to the computer??? I want a mixer that outputs more than two tracks, by a long shot. Where can I find a mixer that outputs 16 tracks that can be manipulated individually on the computer as opposed to two tracks that you can barely do anything with?

lol, thats why they call it a "mixer". It mixes :p.

The Soundcraft M series has direct outs on each mic channel, but the biggest one is 12 mic channels. Check the Allen and Heath Mix wizards. I think they have direct outs too. I'm sure there are others. If you just want preamps, look at a rack mounted preamp instead of (or in addition to) a mixer. I use a Soundcraft M8 and a Presonus D8 to get 16 separate tracks into a pair of Delta 1010lt cards.

They do indeed, as does the ZED series (the one I have), and the GL series. But by the sound of it what Viiv needs is not a mixer but rather a 16-input A/D interface.

Or the A&H Zed R16, which has a 16 channel firewire interface built in.

mostly i mean something along the lines of the Alesis iO26 but with a few more tracks

Thats not a mixer. Thats an interface. Alot of interfaces have ADAT inputs where you could add another 8 channels using an 8 channel preamp (like a Presonus D8). Actually, it looks like the io26 has an ADAT input on the back...

I just got the Tascam M-164UF 16 channel mixer ($525 CDN), but it only sends 1 to 10 to computer 11-16 are sent as FX 1/2, Sub LR, Stereo LR

I have seen people comment well on this one 18 channel FW
http://www.phonic.com/en/mixers/helix-board-18-firewire-mkii.html
  • 96 kHz FireWire interface for streaming 16 independent channels of audio to computer with near-zero latency
  • FireWire Pre/post setting for swapping streaming input channels to computer from pre low cut, EQ to post EQ, post fader
  • 100+Tap 32/40-bit high-definition digital multi-effects
  • SPDIF digital audio output
  • 8 Mic preamps
They also have a 12 and 24 version in FW and also a FW/USB "combo" models in 12/18/24

The Mackie Onyx mixers have independent channels, if you get the firewire card.

I haven't seen a usb mixer with outputs for every channel, though there may be some nowadays.

The Mackie is supposed to be quite good. I had an Onyx 800r for a while, it sounds good, clean.

im using a mackie onyx 1620 with firewire card and works great.
I can send 8 mono channels and 4 stereo channels on separate tracks works great for drum tracks
