still can't get bass to sound right

I've been through it all. And really, it's all about getting the right bass with the right strings and the right settings on the knobs. How you play also has a huge effect. And from there, it's all about eq-ing everything else in the mix so they don't get in to a mud party with the bass. It's frustrating as hell, because there are just so many factors that go in to it - luck being a huge one.

Don't know what kind of P Bass you have but the kind I been playin for 35+ years have Split single coils.

The split single coils are wired in reverse polarities thus bucking the 60 khz hum thats why they are called humbuckers there does not have to be a cover on them to be called a humbucker.BTW I have a j-bass with single coils.
