$23.95aud (about $13usd) for a pair of promark 5A's... this doesn't make sense to me....i guess what pissed me off more than the price was the limeted selection, no 7A's and only hickory.... can't find japanese oak sticks anywhere anymore and most music stores are cutting down on the variety of sizes, haven;t seen any signature sieries sticks in a while either...am i just not looking hard enough or is this a world wide phenomenon

I thought everybody was using those aircraft metal sticks nowadays. ;-)

the thing about those ahead sticks(plastic /metal) is you got to make sure you dont punture threw the plastic, because you will dent the metal rod in the inside , reduceing the life of the stick. there nice in lite. but i like the feeling of -CRACK.....(simulating broken stick while jamin.)

You can buy replacement sleeves and tips for those ahead tips.
Anyway, those sticks cost like $79 in the pro audio catalogue. I don't break sticks often enough to worry about it.

those ahead sticks are gay anyways. they are slippery as hell especially when you get sweaty.

hey dr. colossus.........

I'm a devotee of pro-mark 7A japanese oak sticks...and I haven't had any problem finding them here in the states....and for about $8 a pair....??

thats it !!!! i've had it up to here, i'm moving to the u.s.a!!!!

ahead sticks

The Ahead sticks are horrible for your wrists. Be careful if you are going to use them.

i had a pair of the ahead sticks. broke em. they're crap. and it hard to controll them if you do complex sticking. stick with some $3 cheapies.

speaking of cheapies you guys seen those painted sticks? they're cheapies that are painted to hide the dodgy grain... i buy these now and then, they last six minutes.....

another thing, do you guys roll your sticks before you buy 'em? i don't see the point, they are never any more than an 1/8" out and if you can hit that acuratley you deserve a meddle!

I don't roll much anymore but I have noticed that sticks in general used to last longer than they do now, and I used to be a basher. Now O play much ighter with more feel.
Maybe the sticks are all coming from new growth trees and aren't as hardy...

I still do the "marimba" thing when I buy sticks though. You know this? Pull out about 6 "matched pairs" and put on a flat (preferably carperted) surface. Pick up the butt of the stick (while the tip remains in contact with the surface) and drop it. Listen for the pitch of each stick (suprise! High to low pitches & some are stifled, don't use those! remove them from the pile) and order them low to high in pitch. (like a marimba, xylophone etc) once you have re-alligned the sticks by pitch, pick the ones in the middle .

Yes I am anal, I also have used a stethoscope to tune drums as well. (it works really well actually).
