Stevie Nicks/Stand Back/Live Recordings

Hey fellas,

I've decided to put the Tesla Coil/Flaming Dagger idea on ice, and so contact you with a different question. My band and I just recorded a seven-song little demo to post on myspace/give away at shows, etc. I am very familiar with the garbage in/garbage out mantra, and live by it, but I'm wondering if there are little tricks/tweaks I can use once the thing is done.

I recorded it in a VERY LIVE art gallery, a rectangular basement with concrete floors. The drums were recorded using the wonderful "recorderman" method I read about on this site at great length, with 2 AKG large diaphragm condensers. Bass was DI, and guitar miked with a 57. We use that place to practice after we close up for the day, so some of the quality was lost to setting shit up, micing, mixing etc on the quick, but we still got a fairly decent sound, I think, for our first attempt. Everything was recorded live.

Here's the track. Let me know if there's anything that can be done with it in post, though I doubt there is anything that can be done to tweak it. Like I said, I know all about garbage in=garbage out. :D

I would drink more coffee, pan the drums, bass and vocals dead center, bring out more bass with some top end(reamp it) and bring the guitar more forward in the mix. You can always tweak it more.

Have you considered using a giant tesla coil to shoot lightning bolts at the audience? That's the visual I get listening to this. Just a thought.....

Not too bad. I like the room sound and overall vibe. If you guys could take your time and get a take where the drummer isn't dropping beats all over the place it could probably be pretty cool.

Is this multitracked or just 2 track?
 
This is awesome!

I hope you can get a better recording. I know someone who gets a kick out of these particular covers.
