Hi!

at the moment Im using audio technica AT825 but I think it has to much noise. Im using the audio technica mainly for recording for sounddesign and field recording.

I would likte to have a stereo mic since I dont want to have so much gear to carry around.

My criterias for a new mic is:

* Stereo
* low-noise
* high sensitivity (have just got +45dB in gain of my preamp for fieldrecording so good if it´s have low sensitivity)
* pricerange maximum 600 dollars (rather less)

I have got phantompower so no need for battery.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Is there some reason you can't read your previous thread?

Aside from the changes in specs anyway.

+phantom power

+larger budget ($600)

Is that per mic, or total?

The thread title is a little weak too. Stereo and Microphone are TWO words, not one. And stereo implies a minimum of 2, so that would be plural for microphones. From one C/D english student to another.

If you want low noise, you either need to up that budget. MKH 8020 / MKH 8040. And/Or get better preamps and converters. Sonosax SX-M2. Korg MR-1000. And you're probably looking at a phantom powered mic. Dynamics have low signal strengths which requires more gain, and therefor more noise from the preamp driving it.

And a few more details would be nice? Ambience? Concert? Debate Team? What is the intended use? Cardioid / OMNI / ??? mics come in many flavors, noise floor is just one of their attributes.

yes I do can read but since I now got phantompower I decided to make a new thread so that it wouldnt be confusing. Im sorry if that anoyed you.

congratulation for being so well educated! Im very impressed, indead! im from sweden, that will say none english speaking. dont know where you´re from but I think the most important is that people understand what I mean. not the space between two words. otherwise if you prefer we can take it in mine mother tongue instead?

wrong, its singular since its only one mic and not a stereopair I want. back to the books! :D

So you want something like an NT4? Note that it has TWO mic elements, even though it's mounted on one mic. We are still talking stereo pair when talking stereo mic. There are two microphones in that singular mic. Perhaps a CK-40 might suit you.

Also bear in mind that when we talk about stereo recording that it comes in many flavors in and of itself. XY, ORTF, MS, Spaced Pair, Blumlein, ....... Intended use and subject matter is very important as to which you use. It tend to go with a stereo pair, because it gives me the option of choice. Many of the single mics with dual mic elements are fixed in a single option. And come with special breakout cables to end with basically two mics on the recording end. Are we talking 1x 3.5mm(1/8") plug input? Or two XLR connectors on your field recorder?

By the way C/D is in reference to american grades. C is barely passing, D is barely failing. A would be best, F would be worst aka Fail. Although I suppose that that is well educated in parts, with so many high school drop outs.

Perhaps something from the home country then.

Not yet. I tend to capture musical ensembles so I need the transparent capture that other types of mics offer. Even with a high noise floor, a trumpet that sounds like a trumpet is beneficial. If it sounds like a clarinet and the trumpet person hears it, they try to adjust to the mic and the presentation doesn't normally improve from that point on. And everyone walks away with another WTF moment.
