Stereo process

Ok here it goes.If i have a stereo recorded sample and i want to wide it up a little,is it ok to convert it to stereo split and pan it?Also which is a good program to work on stereo recordings?oh!Does a the mic of a camera writes in stereo or mono?

If you do a stereo split and pan one all the way to one side and the other all the way to the other side, you will be right back where you started. You need to run a stereo speading plugin to do what you want.
