You guys heard of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club?

Well, just wondered if you guys know how they got that massive, open sound to the drums on there debut. Sounds very live with lots of ambient room noise and in stereo too. Also very fat snare sounds.

Maybe it is to do with the tuning of the snare?

Well, i hope you guys can help me, maybe over in US there have been different interviews with engineers etc.

I never listened to it... but they probably had a very nice sounding live room... and set up 2 room mics one on left side of drum kit and one on the right... then they probably had a mic overtop of the drummers head pointing at the snare drum...

i cant tell u if thats what they used but that technique will give u a big fat live room sound

Hadnt though of that

Roughly how high do you recommend placing the 2 stereo overheads above the cymbals?

Never though of another overhead above the snare. Could i also mic the snare with a dynamic mic instead of an overhead. Say for example an SM57?
