hi,
i've got a nice sounding little sony stereo electret condenser mic that i would like to use into my mixer or pre amp to my recorder, but it has a built in cable with a stereo mini plug on the end. could i use a mini to 1/4 inch stereo adapter to plug into the 1/4 inch ins on my mixer, or the hi z 1/4 inch in on my preamp? it has a battery, so i'm assuming it wouldn't need phantom power. i hope this isn't a stupid question, but i don't want to screw up any of my gear.
thanks - jv

its supposed to be for a camera i assume. I'd say either would work.

sony stereo mic

... actually, it's made for a minidisc recorder, but it's one of those things that sounds great as a room mic (surprisingly so for an $80 battery powered electret mic).

You'de actually want a splitter acable, to plug it into two mono channels.
Otherwise, the whole stereo effect would be ruined...

Note, that electret mics work much better if you feed them with a 9V current. I'm not sure about your specific mic, but try and see if you can somehow modify it to work with a 9V battery.
