stereo mic to mono input?

I have a stereo mic 2rca out. Would it work to use a cable that uses male stereo jack into a mono input of my recorder? Will it translate ok to a mono signal to my 8 track recorder? Or is it bad to use stereo jacks into mono inputs? Thanks guys..

It really depend on how the mic works. It is probably much safer to just use one side of it. You aren't going to miss anything , I'm sure the diaphragms are right next to each other.
