Hi all!

I was wondering how guitars are recorded in stereo.Songs that I've heard this technique being used are a lot of Queen's songs, where the same guitar piece is being played in left and right, but they sound like two separate guitars. Does this work by using the same recording of the guitar piece, and copying it to two channels (left and right), and then maybe delaying one of the channels ever so slightly compared to the other one? or do the left and right channels have different EQ's? any ideas??

Is it also right, to record an acoustic guitar in stereo then two mics are positioned at a certain place around the guitar?

Thanks to anyone who replies!

Tracking the same (or similar) part multiple times and panning is commonplace in guitar recording (often using different guitars, effects, eq, etc.). Doing the copy/delay thing can work o.k., but it's really just a shortcut for the lazy. :D
Also, miking the amp with multiple mics and processing each differently, or combining a DI signal with a miked amp can yield great results.

For the acoustics, check this article for good tips:

Absolutely. It's a big subject with tremendous variety in methods and tastes. Have you tried it? Related things that are good to understand (lots to be found w/the search button above) are stereo microphone technique, XY, ORTF, spaced pair, phase coherence and mono compatibility.

Best thing is to experiment, experiment, experiment and just trust your ear.
