Stereo bars

I'm not sure if this is a stupid question or not ;)

I would like to get a stereo bar for recording X/Y with two condenser mics I have. I believe for this technique, I need the mics placed one above the other. However, from the online pictures I can find, it is not obvious that the bars generally available allow me to do this...

Do I need to buy a bar then modify it? Or am I missing something?

One solution would be to tilt the mics I guess, but presumably this is not satisfactory...

Anyway, if anyone could set me straight, I'd much appreciate it!

Thanks,

Alex

You don't need to have one mic above the other, just as close as possible without touching.

But your mic clips should allow you to have one above the other.

The functionality that you are describing is a function of the mic stand and not the bar. For example, a decent boom stand will allow you to tilt the stereo bar in a vertical position. You can find them anywhere for about $20.

You can also get a straight bar (or one like scrubs showed), unthread one of the sides and thread it in upside-down. Then when you put the clips on they are staggered.

here here!

the only two bars you ever need are the

Shure a27m! and the K+M 235. Period!

now I have a mod for the Shure that will allow you to run two LDCs in blumlein, thus making it possible for you to do nearly ANY configuration with those two.

you need the shure a27m vert bar.

you will also need a coupler from fastenal...

Fastenal Co.
Part # 0148071
1/4-28x7/8 COUPL Z

get a female coupling and piece of threaded rod.( the sku on the threaded rod.=0152183)

screw the female coupling to the top of the a27 bar and thread your piece of rod into the other end...bam, problem solved.

Also grab a piece of pvc pipe and paint it black to cover the exposed thread and maintain a professional appearance.

pics are here:

i have multiples of each of those bars...they are two things I consider indispensible...
