Step recording drums (what software?)

Hi All,

My favourite thing about using a drum machine a few years ago was using the step recording feature: having the machine loop a one or two bar section while the drums were either played on pads or added indiviually as the bars progressed. I liked this because you could get a really 'human' groove on drum parts. I am sure I have seen drums recorded like this using a midi keyboard and software combo.

I have started using sonar producer for home recording but don't really like the session drummer or filling in the piano roll for drum parts. Does anyone know a program/plugin that emulates the drum machine way of things (that isn't d-lusion or fruity loops).

The drum machine i used to use was a zoom rt-123. Don't really want to buy one again but might have to.

cheers.

Have you thought about getting some drums? Seriously. Now I'm talking about an entire kit but just a few pieces like a set of hi-hats or a snare. There is nothing like "playing" drummer over a beat to add the human touch. Banging away is also a lot of fun! Plus, you'll end up with some real sounds and some experience micing drums. Just a thought.

definately would like to but just haven't got the space. I have my stuff in a spare room of the house which is pretty small and don't even have the space to pack them away after use.
