I have one that was made by Hohner about 13 years ago. I guess Hohner dropped them believe that Steinberger started making those same guitars under there own name instead of the "Licensed by Steinberger" that Hohner had on. Basically they are cheaper clones of the original Steinberger axe. My boss at work bought one last year from Music Yo

I don't really know if they are cutting any corners now or anything compared to the one I have... if so, it's not strikingly obvious. The guitar is not bad, very playable, sounds very decent if not terrific... and very easy to carry around and take on a plane (my main reason for getting it).

i havent heard anyone say ANYTHING bad about guitars from MusicYo....

I've played a friend's GT-Pro a couple of times, and I was really impressed by its neck. Very fast! The locking trem was also pretty cool, but I can't say that I like the EMG Select pickups. Their tone struck me as being thin and brittle, but I didn't spend much time trying to dial in a fatter tone. I would love to get one as a travel guitar (possibly after a pickup swap). Other than the lack of the middle single-coil and the slightly different body shape, does anybody know what's different on the GP-2R? What makes it worth $20 more than the GT-Pro?

I haven't heard anyone say ANYTHING at all about MusicYo.

That's about the dumbest name I've ever heard, but let us know how you like the guitar. That's what's important!

The original Steinberger is all graphite. I think that for the price that was listed on the page, you will be happy with the guitar. I remember when the music store I managed had some of the Hohner versions of that same model lying around. They were very hard to play while seated. Took a little getting used to, kind like a V. Even with that pop down wing, a little awkward balance. The cool thing about the Original was the graphite. Had a very punchy sound, also had a lifetime warranty. Also the double ball end strings are easy to change quickly. Good luck.

The original wasn't graphite, was it? I thought it was some high-tech carbon fiber composite. Also, they had something called a TransTrem, which was a whammy bar that could smoothly move the whole guitar up and down in tune by a semitone or two...

The weirdest thing for me to get used to was the lack of a headstock. Every time my glance would stray over to my left hand I would have a little startle that the expected chunk of wood and tuning machines was not there...

I had one of the Steinberger licensed Hohner models, Hum-sing-sing EMG Select pickups, maple neck & body. I used it for a backup on gigs. The guitar was very well made but a couple things: The guitar had a lot of sustain, but no "soul", to me it sounded thin and cold, as have other maple bodied guitars I've played. The big problem though, is that small bodied/light weight guitars (another example: Parker Fly) wear me out when I play them; there is not enough weight to counteract the actions of your hands. Vibrato and string bending require more force because the guitar does'nt have enough weight to stay in place, it moves with your hands. I don't know if I'm explaining it correctly, but I have talked to a few people who have said the same thing about Parker Fly and Steinberger-style guitars and basses. I love the sound and vibe of Parkers, but have stayed away because of that. If your playing style is different than mine, this may not be a factor. I sold the Hohner because I needed the money, but if I still had it today, I would probably try to attach some weight to the back of it and see if that would help...

Nope, Good ol' Graphite. Worked well as a pencil too, or a boat oar. I used to have one when I was in college. That and a Zoom 9002. I was a walking fool. It was great.

OK......Musicyo fucked up and sent me the wrong guitar. I called up and the guy said the only way to resolve the matter at hand was via email. I filled out the return form online, and emailed them the situation. I asked to be reimbursed on the shipping charges on the return and for something in return for their mistake. Within 10 minutes I received an email back stating that they would credit my credit card the original shipping charge and throw in 10 sets of strings. I'm happy.....

Lets hope they get it right this time!!!!!

I'm glad they are trying to appease you. What did they send? wrong color or something?
