Working on a original my daughter wrote for the Father daughter dance coming up on Saturday ( yep my kids getting hitched ) and driving me self nuts trying to get it right these last few days...

Decided to take a break and bang this one out by Sam Smith...been on my mind how to do this...it's a rough idea of what I want to pull off...dig the harmonica interlude...I've got some Hohner blues harps but this was a cheap little souvenir that my daughter brought back from when she visited Alcatraz ...It has the inscription "Where music is a privilege" on it...( fitting) was able to get some notes and sounds I couldn't from the blues harps...I had fun with this...now back to the grind. ugh!

This is the fixed (sort of) intro version

I have no idea who Sam Smith is and don't know the original but this sounds pretty good to me. Nice and simple. I really like your voice.

I had never heard of him either till about 3 weeks ago...I don't do a lot of radio...but my wife said the local radio DJ's were making a big deal about this dude and his tune so I checked it out...dabbled with it and saw that it was screaming for some harmonica.... As usual I tried to make it my own cause I sure can't copy anybody.

I had a google and a listen to some of his stuff. he's good at what he does but not my particular cup of tea. I thought your voice and version of this is much better. The harmonica sounds great.

I'm going whack with my daughters song....I'm trying to sing mellow where I just can't get the volume / my daughter has power pipes so the contrast is blinding...I'll post a version soon..... just not happy with they way it is coming out but I'll have to settle on something pretty quick she's getting hitched Saturday....:eek:
 
Wow...just wow. About 3 weeks ago, my wife and were entertaining a move to California. It was a job opportunity that we ultimately chose to pass on. But if we had moved out there, the first think I'd have done would not have been work related. Nope, I'd have tracked you down, then pinned you down, and made you sing some of my songs.

Seriously--your voice is golden. Keep on doing what you do--I love it!

(On the flip side, if you wanna move to the midwest, I've got a studio and an open invitation for you--just let me know!)
 
Nice tune. I like the harmonica and love the voice. I think the hand drum has some timing issues, though. Don't get me started on hand drum timing - I've been struggling with a bongo part all week.
 
Very nice tune great sound overall (especially harmonica).

Dobro Dude you weren't supposed to hear that! I pulled the hand drum thing waaaay back...I have a little Yamaha drum pad kit thingy and it has this hand drum rhythm that I used to keep a strange beat to the tune.. If I add some other hand drums it sounds fine but when I leave it like it is if you listen it can sound off sometimes...Maybe I'll lay down another track along side it.

Thanks X! Yeah I have always messed with the harmonica but this is the first tune I've ever used it on...It was just sitting there near my keys and I picked it up and started playing the chords with my left hand and messed around..I dug what I cam up with enough to try and throw it in the tune...

Now the vocal styling and way I play on this is miles apart from the contemporary Gene Autry / Burl Ives type of voice I try to pull off on my daughters Father Daughter dance tune...diversity baby ;)

LOL the craziest review of a tune I did I have ever gotten... I think he's saying he liked it :laughings:

Noctural, bruised, pained - that's your voice - in only the best way - kind of Rod Stewart when he actually sang but a bit better still.
There're a few points where the vocal could be tamed as it's quite dynamic but then again I think it's cool that way.
The honky harmonica works a treat.
 
Lovely cover and arrangements, vocals are spot on performance and emotion wise, the harmonica gives a new identity to the song and both suits it very well...great cover all together though!!
 
I like your voice a lot. It's expressive with a raw edge--I kept thinking of Rod Stewart. Harmonic sounds nice. Good job.
 
Very beautifully done. You are one of the lucky ones with a recognizable voice....I can feel the emotion in your voice and its great. I bet your good at singing the blues. I was going to crit a couple small things, but the raw/live vibe you got going sounds stellar. Great job.
